Chain link Fences: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly Truth
There’s a lot to be said about chain link fences. However, while chain link is certainly the workhorse of the fencing world, it’s aesthetic appeal undeniably falls on the lower end of the spectrum. In this blog, we’ve attempted to explore the good and bad, while negotiating the ugly.
The Good
Chain link fences are strong, resilient, and extremely durable. By contrast, materials like cedar are far more susceptible to everyday forces like rain and wind. Additionally, if you don’t want your land partitioned like an office cubicle, chain link is relatively see-through and won’t obstruct the light that’s flowing through your garden and home. Additionally, chain link fences are cheaper to install, and maintenance requirements are practically non-existent, making these fences even more cost effective as time wears on.
The Bad
Of course, chain link is not without its drawbacks. It’s relatively easy to climb, which can be a concern for folks with talented or overzealous dogs. Wood advocates may also argue that chain link is less secure, but the truth is any determined and able-bodied miscreant will be able to scale a fence. Additionally, the see-through aspect, also mentioned above, means chain link does not offer any privacy unless fitted with special slats, which may or may not be appealing to property owners.
The Ugly
The ugly truth about chain link fencing is that it will never win any beauty contests. It has all the charm of a construction yard. However, with a little effort, the stark galvanized steel appearance can be softened so it blends in with the landscape.
